Tsurumi’s Surface Level Switch Enables Reliable Low-Level Pumping

Tsurumi’s Surface Level Switch Enables Reliable Low-Level Pumping_hero banner-60.jpeg

Traditional submersible pumps are designed to respond to rising water levels, but not all flooding meets that threshold. In low-level conditions, water can remain below float activation points, remaining stagnant and being difficult to remove.

This scenario is common in basements, flat roofs, job sites with flat surfaces, crawlspaces, and many other unique applications including flooded golf greens or tennis courts. The problem becomes even more pronounced in environments such as remediation sites, or when workers leave during the weekend. Without consistent monitoring, shallow water can persist longer than expected, increasing the risk of damage.

To address this challenge, Tsurumi Pump offers a line of surface level switches that are designed specifically for shallow water conditions. Unlike conventional float switches that rely on buoyancy, the surface level switch sits directly on the floor and detects the presence of water at fractions of an inch. When connected to Tsurumi’s LSC and LSR submersible pumps, the system enables fully automated operation, turning the pump on and off without the need for manual intervention.

Resembling a “hockey puck” style shape, the switch activates the pump when water reaches the “on” probe and shuts it off once levels drop, aided by a built-in delay to prevent rapid cycling. For the LSC Series, pumps can operate at extremely low levels, eliminating even the smallest puddles, while Tsurumi’s LSR Series can operate in and pump down to one fifth of an inch.

Installation is straightforward; the pump connects into the piggy-back style plug on the switch, which is plugged into a standard outlet, making it easy to deploy in areas without drainage. The unit’s epoxy-filled design and isolated circuit allow for safe, reliable operation, even when submerged.

Ideal for environments where water is frequently at low levels, Tsurumi’s surface level switches provide a practical solution for spaces that can’t be consistently monitored. Routine checks for performance and proper pump priming help ensure long-term reliability.

By enabling pumps to respond to extremely low water levels, Tsurumi’s surface level switch solves a problem that often goes unnoticed until it’s too late.
